North Shore Animal Rescue
About Us
We are an Animal rescue group based near Hornsby in the Upper North Shore area of Sydney. We rescue mainly cats and kittens from Death Row Pounds across the Sydney area. We provide love, care and medical treatment until our rescued animals are healthy and well, before finding them new, loving homes.

Adoption Saturdays 2012
ADOPTION SATURDAYS Every Saturday, starting from Saturday 11th February, we will be holding our popular Adoption Saturday at Normanhust Vet Practice, 31 Normanhurst Road, Normanhurst, from 0830 to 1200. If you considering adopting from us please come along to meet Nicky, who will have a selection of her current cats that are available for cuddles and adoption! Prior to the 11th, or outside of a Saturday, please give Nicky a call to discuss adopting, and to make an appointment.
Last Updated (Friday, 13 January 2012 12:09) Cats Available for Adoption
We currently have 25 cats (aged from 12 months upwards) that are looking for their new home, so if you are looking to adopt, please give us a call to inquire about the ones we have available. (Please note that as from January 2012, we do not currently have any rescue kittens in care)
We have a wonderful variety of all shapes and sizes, long, medium and short-haired. All our of our cats come vet-checked, microchipped, desexed and vaccinated, plus we offer a a 28 day 'family-fit' trial period. Most adult cats are also Lifetime Registered.
Please check out our 'cats for adoption' pages for full details on all our current cats. Please also look out for 'Biggles', our very special 'Cat of the Month' as he is one of our rescues that has been in care for over a year now, and is still waiting for a new loving home.
Thank you for considering adopting one of our lovely cats.
Last Updated (Friday, 13 January 2012 12:11) Thinking about Adopting a NSAR Cat?If you are thinking about adopting at one of our Adoption Saturdays, please visit the 'Adopting From Us' section on the website as this provides you with an overview of the adoption process.
Please allow about an hour for your visit, as you will need to have a chat with Nicky in order for her to assess what type of cat would best suit your situation.
What you'll need to being with you:
A form of ID such as your drivers licence that shows your name and address.
The adoption Fee (Cash and EPTPOS are accepted at the Vet Clinic)
A suitable cat carrier to take your adopted cat home in (sorry, cardboard boxes or plastic crates are not acceptable to transport cats in)
Food and Cat Equipment:
Nicky can give you advice on the cats' dietery requirements and premium dried food is available to purchase from Normanhurst Vet Practice.
We also have a limited amount of very low priced used cat equipment, such as feeding bowls, litter trays, blankets and toys that can be purchased at time of adopting from us. Last Updated (Sunday, 20 November 2011 16:24) Adopt an Adult Cat Campaign 2012
The average length of time it takes to rehome a kitten is 4 weeks. The average length of time it takes to rehome an adult cat is six months plus.
Every week, we take approx 30 enquiries about kittens. Every week, we get less than a third of that for our adult cats enquiries.
Nicky would like to encourage potential adopters to really think about whether they actually do need, or even want, a kitten, or whether adopting a juvenile or adult cat might be more suitable to their lifestyle.
We have some really lovely adult cats in our care who have been waiting patiently for a new home for a long time. Most of the adult cats we rescue from 'Death Row' have been in homes, and are loving and well-socialised animals. They come to us confused and heartbroken; not understanding what has happened to them, and where the homes and people they loved have gone. They absolutely deserve to find a new, loving home.
For more information about the benefits of adopting an adult cat, please see the 'Why Adopt an Adult Cat' page under the 'Animals for Adoption' section on our site. Last Updated (Friday, 13 January 2012 11:59) |
Since we started our Death Row Rescue and Re-homing Programme in March 2010, 150 of our rescued cats and kittens have found new homes with loving owners in the Hornsby area and surrounding North Shore suburbs, which has now extended to include adoptive families from the wider Sydney/NSW area.
We couldn't do this without the wonderful people out there who make a conscious choice to give a home to an animal in need. Thank you all so much!
